Crown Reduction:
Usually involves a reduction of the spread of the crown as well as the height. It alleviates mechanical stress by reducing both the lever-arm and the sail area of the tree. It retains the main framework of the crown and therefore a high proportion of the foliage bearing structure, which is important for the maintenance of vitality.  Typically, 10-30% of the trees volume is removed to give an overall smaller size. This is carried out when trees outgrow the positions in which they are planted.

Crown Lifting:
Involves pruning or the removal of lower branches to achieve a desired vertical clearance above ground level. Crown lifting should be avoided or minimized in mature or old trees if possible, since it can increase the probability of stem failure. If it cannot be avoided, it should preferably involve the removal of secondary branches or branch shortening rather than branch removal.

Crown Thinning:
is the removal of branches within the crown, to enhance the shape and balance throughout the crown to produce an even density of foliage around a well spaced and balanced branch structure.

Dead wooding:
Dead branches should be shortened or if necessary removed if they pose an unacceptable risk to people or property and if other options (e.g moving the footpath) are not practicable. The unnecessary loss of deadwood habitats should be avoided when making specifications for crown management, particularly if legally protected species(e.g. bats and many birds) are using the tree, thus in the absence of any significant risk to people or property, deadwood should not be removed.

Crown Clean:
Normally done in conjunction with dead wooding. The removal of dead, dying or diseased wood, stumps of broken branches, unwanted epicormic shoots, climbing plants e.g. ivy and rubbish accumulated in branch forks.

Sectional Dismantling:
The gradual dismantling of a tree where it is impractical to fell the whole tree at once. This may be due to size or where there  are sensitive targets within the immediate area. The tree is slowly dismantled under control and limbs may be lowered using rigging equipment and techniques where necessary. This can be a costly process due to the time and equipment involved. Occasionally cranes or access platforms may be required.

Tree Stump Removal:
The most effective way to deal with a stump is to grind it out mechanically. The stump is typically cut down as low to the ground as possible before being ground out. Stumps and roots are ground into chippings/mulch causing minimum disturbance to the surrounding area. This leaves the site ready for any work the client may require. Once ground the remaining small roots will die off leaving the area free to be re-planted. Sometimes it is necessary to apply a stump killing poison such as iron sulphate for a period prior to grinding to prevent any left over roots from re-growing.

Wood chip:
we can supply wood chip for your garden, it is an excellent weed suppressor and makes very good footpaths. It can also be used as a fertilizer but it has to be well rotted to prevent it from leaching Nitrogen from the soil.

Logs:
We may be able to supply logs for firewood, please feel free to contact us for further information.
